Wes Moyer Named 2001 CPL All-Star Game Most Valuable Offensive Player
July 12, 2001 Edenton, N.C. --The Coastal Plain Collegiate Summer Baseball League held its third annual All-Star game on Wednesday night at historic Hicks Field in Edenton and two Tar Heels were among the participants. Wes Moyer of the Outer Banks Daredevils played for the Northern Division team while Scott Senatore of the Wilmington Sharks was named to the Southern Division's All-Star roster. Moyer, who was named the game's Most Valuable Offensive Player, went 1-1 on the night and scored the game's only run in the bottom of the 8th inning to lead the North to a 1-0 victory in a pitching dominated event. Moyer's hit represented one of only five in the entire contest. Senatore also pitched well for the Southern Division squad, turning in two full innings of no hit, no run ball. He also tallied two strikeouts. The Coastal Plain League is a summer collegiate league sanctioned both by the NCAA and Major League Baseball. The league, which features 11 Tar Heels, will resume the season on Friday with a full schedule.
