July 9, 2007 GREENSBORO, N.C. - A trio of All-Americans, nine Major League Baseball draft picks and seven All-Atlantic Coast Conference honorees, including ACC Pitcher of the Year Bryan Henry of Florida State, highlight the 2007 All-ACC Academic Baseball Team, as announced Monday by Commissioner John D. Swofford. To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during his academic career. Florida State secured seven selections to lead all ACC schools, followed by five nods each from Virginia Tech and Wake Forest. The FSU Seminoles boast an All-American group that includes All-ACC performers in Mark Hallberg, Henry and Buster Posey. The trio was tabbed for All-America distinction by several national organizations in 2007, as they helped in the Seminoles advance to the NCAA Tournament for the 16th consecutive year after capturing the league Atlantic Division and overall championships during the regular season. Henry garnered national distinction from four organizations - the American Baseball Coaches Association, Baseball America, Collegiate Baseball and National College Baseball Writers' Association (NCBWA), while Posey collected All-America recognition by three (ABCA, Baseball America and Collegiate Baseball) and Hallberg was a third team ABCA All-American. Warren Schaeffer, a 38th-round pick in the MLB Draft this year, led the Hokies on the academic squad while All-ACC second-teamer Allan Dykstra, who was the 2006 ACC Freshman of the Year, returned as a repeat academic honoree to pace the Demon Deacons. Duke, Georgia Tech, Maryland and Virginia landed four picks, while Clemson and NC State each received three. Tony Bajoczky, an All-ACC performer for the Duke Blue Devils, was picked in the 34th round of the 2007 MLB Draft and a second-team member on this year's ESPN The Magazine All-District III squad with teammate Nathan Freiman. Jared Hyatt of Georgia Tech was the lone ACC first-team ACC representative on ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District III Team, while junior Daniel Moskos, a second-team All-ACC pitcher for the NCAA Regional Champion Clemson Tigers, was the first league player to be selected in this year's MLB Draft as he went to the Pittsburgh Pirates in the first round and fourth overall. Rounding out the 41-member academic contingent, Boston College and Miami each placed one student-athlete. In addition to Hallberg, Henry, Hyatt, Moskos and Schaeffer being picked for the MLB Draft this year, five other draft prospects were named to the academic team in Duke's Tony Bajoczky, Florida State's Mark Gildea, Georgia Tech's Michael Fisher and Virginia's Mike Mitchell.
