All-Star Break Baseball Stat Tracker
July 9, 2002 COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Coming off a noteworthy turnaround season, the Maryland baseball team continues to garner distinction through the major-league performances of some former Terp standouts. With eight players currently representing Maryland on professional clubs, four of whom were drafted this past June, the Terrapin squad has forged itself as a source of top-caliber ballplayers. These Terps remain competitive and consistent in their pursuit of success at the Major League Baseball All-Star break. Leading the way is Eric Milton, starting pitcher for the Minnesota Twins and the sole Terrapin playing for a Major League ball club. Milton has started the season strong with 10 wins in 19 starts and an ERA of 5.21, with 71 strikeouts in just over 115 innings pitched. Kevin Haverbusch has played consistently well as a left fielder for the Nashville Sounds, the AAA affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates. Haverbusch owns an impressive .293 batting average with five doubles and two home runs as well as three stolen bases and nine RBI in twenty-nine games. Kevin McDonald, the 39th-round draft pick by Detroit in 2002, is getting his feet wet with the Class A Oneonta Tigers. McDonald, a catcher, has seen limited action during the first half of the season, playing in only nine games. Outfielder Matt Swope has started his professional career with the Montreal Expos' Class A affiliate, the Clinton Copper Kings, and has played in eight games to date. Swope has been consistent on offense, batting .259 with two doubles and two RBI and has even stolen two bases. Terp pitchers Brandon Agamennone and Ken Beck, with the Expos AA affiliate Harrisburg Senators and the Expos Rookie League respectively, are showing tremendous promise. Agamennone has struck out eleven batters in eleven innings with an ERA of 3.09 in five games. Beck has had two saves in four games with a 1.29 ERA and six strike outs. Other Terps of note include Garry Maddox and Tom Curtiss. Maddox, currently in left field for the independent Camden Riversharks, is batting .258 with nine RBI. Curtiss pitches for the Allentown Ambassadors.
