Former Carolina All-America outfielder Tyrell Godwin has agreed to terms with the Toronto Blue Jays, the club announced Monday.
A UNC baseball letterwinner from 1998-2000, Godwin was drafted by the Blue Jays in the third round of last month's Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft. Godwin had previously been drafted but did not sign out of high school by the New York Yankees and in 2000 by the Texas Rangers.
The Council, N.C., native finished his UNC career with a .362 batting average and 142 RBIs. He stole 54 bases over three years, hit 22 home runs and was a first-team All-ACC pick in 1999 and a second-team selection in 2000.
