Six current Duke baseball players are competing in collegiate leagues this summer. Billy Muldowney and Javier Socorro are playing in the New England Collegiate Baseball League. Eric Baumann and Corey Whiting are competing in the Florida Collegiate Summer League. And Sean Murnane and Russell Durfee are playing in the Clark Griffith Collegiate Baseball League. Ten former Blue Devils are continuing their careers in pro baseball, including major leaguers Chris Capuano, Quinton McCracken and Scott Schoeneweis.

CURRENT BLUE DEVILS IN SUMMER BASEBALL

New England Collegiate Baseball League

P Billy Muldowney, Riverpoint: Is 0-1 with a 5.14 ERA in four games (three starts) for the Riverpoint Royals in West Warwick, R.I. Has struck out 18 and walked just three in 14.0 innings pitched.

OF Javier Socorro, Newport: Ranks fourth on the team with a .304 batting average while starting 14 of 15 games for the Newport Gulls in Newport, R.I. Leads the team with seven doubles and is second on the squad with 10 RBIs.

Florida Collegiate Summer League

C Eric Baumann, Winter Park: Is tied for the team lead with four doubles. Batting .176 in 10 games with the Winter Park Diamond Dawgs.

OF Corey Whiting, Winter Park: Ranks tied for second on the team with six RBIs in 11 games. Batting .167.

Clark Griffith Collegiate Baseball League

P Russell Durfee, Bethesda: Has pitched 2.2 scoreless innings for the Bethesda Big Train.

P Sean Murnane, Baltimore: Has pitched in four games out of the bullpen for the Baltimore Pride.

BLUE DEVILS IN THE PROS

J.D. Alleva (1998-2001): Is batting .216 with seven doubles, one triple and one home run for the Class A Wilmington Blue Rocks in the Kansas City Royals organization .

Larry Broadway (2000-02): Leads the Class AA Harrisburg Senators (Montreal Expos) in home runs (15), RBIs (37), runs scored (41) and walks (39) and is second in doubles (14). Is batting .259 with a .490 slugging percentage.

Troy Caradonna (2000-03): Has played in seven games for the Class A Staten Island Yankees.

Chris Capuano (1997-99): Is 3-3 with a 2.85 ERA and 34 strikeouts in eight starts for the Milwaukee Brewers.

Ryan Jackson (1991-94): Hit .224 with three doubles and two home runs in 16 games for the Richmond Braves before going to Korea to play for the Lotte Giants.

Tim Layden (2002-04): Signed with the Chicago Cubs after being selected in the sixth round of the 2004 MLB Draft.

Quinton McCracken (1989-92): Hit his first career pinch-hit home run for the Arizona Diamondbacks on Wednesday after being recalled from the Class AAA Tucson Sidewinders. McCracken hit .352 (second on the team) with five doubles, one triple and one home run in 14 games with Tucson.

Brian Patrick (2000-03): Is batting .245 with five doubles, two triples, one home run and 21 RBIs for the Class A Charleston (W.Va.) Alley Cats (Toronto Blue Jays). Also has pitched 1.0 perfect inning.

Scott Schoeneweis (1993-96): Is 5-6 with 54 strikeouts and a 4.36 ERA for the Chicago White Sox. Has pitched 88.2 innings in 14 starts.

Zach Schreiber (2001-04): Has been assigned to the Class A Danville Braves after being drafted by Atlanta in the 16th round of the MLB Draft.
