Checking Former Terps In Professional Baseball
June 23, 2004 COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Former Maryland baseball star Eric Milton (1994-1996) is off to a sensational start with the Philadelphia Phillies and is making a strong case for a spot in the Major League All-Star Game next month in Houston. Milton is currently 9-1 overall with a 4.31 ERA for the first-place Phillies. Milton is tied for the major-league lead in wins with nine. Following their dreams to one day become major league baseball stars, a few former Terrapins are making waves in the minor league baseball ranks. Anthony Buffone (2001-2004) recently drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 22nd round of the draft has just begun his journey. Buffone is now a member of the Batavia Muckdogs, an affiliate of the Phillies in the New York-Penn League (A). In three games he is currently batting .182, with a triple and one RBI in the early going for the Muckdogs. Brandon Agamennone (1995-1998) is currently 3-1 with a 4.29 ERA and 39 strikeouts in 20 games for the Altoona Curve the Eastern League (AA) affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates. Agamennone contributions have helped the Curve to the top of the Southern Divison in the Eastern League. John McCurdy (2000-2002) is batting .236 with five homeruns and 23 RBI's in 63 games for the Midland Rockhounds the Texas League (A) affiliate of the Oakland Athletics.
Steve Schmoll (2000-2003) is currently 1-3 with 38 strikeouts in 23 games for the Vero Beach Dodgers an affiliate of the Los Angeles Dodgers in the Florida State League (A). Schmoll is second on the Dodgers with a 2.38 ERA and tied for 8th in the Florida State League with seven saves.
