ATLANTA -
Georgia Tech left handed pitcher Kyle Bakker was named to Baseball America's second-team All-America team, while second baseman Eric Patterson and right fielder Jeremy Slayden were both named to the first-team Freshman All-America team.
Bakker, a 6-9 sophomore, led the Tech pitching staff in wins (13), earned run average (3.14), innings pitched (134.2) and strikeouts (115). Bakker was even more impressive in Tech's run to the College World Series, posting a 3-0 record and a microscopic 0.75 ERA in three starts in the NCAA Tournament.
Patterson hit .346 and stole 41 bases as Tech's leadoff hitter. His 41 steals stand as the second highest single season total in school history and were the most since Ty Griffin swiped 50 bases in 1986. Patterson started 65 of 68 games in 2002, ranking second on the team with 90 hits and 73 runs scored.
Slayden established a new Tech freshman record with 18 home runs, which stands as the highest home run total since Mark Fischer belted 24 in 1997. Starting 65 games, Slayden hit .348 and led the team with 66 RBI and 74 runs scored.
The trio helped lead Georgia Tech to a school-record 52 wins and its second College World Series appearance in 2002. All three players have been invited to the USA Baseball national trials this summer.
