Former Duke baseball standout Larry Broadway has been selected to play in the 2003 South Atlantic League All-Star Game. He will represent the Savannah Sand Gnats on the SAL Southern Division All-Star team on June 24 in Lexington, Ky.
A first baseman for the Sand Gnats, Broadway leads the team with a .311 batting average, 18 doubles, 12 home runs, 45 runs, 43 runs batted in, 39 walks and a .575 slugging percentage. He leads the SAL in slugging percentage and is tied for the league lead in home runs. Broadway also ranks among SAL leaders in batting average (T8th), doubles (T3rd), extra base hits (2nd, 32), runs (T4th) and RBIs (T4th).
A third round selection of the Montreal Expos in the 2002 Major League Baseball Draft, Broadway was ranked the 10th-best prospect in the Expos organization by Baseball America prior to the 2003 season.
Broadway, who played for the Blue Devils from 2000-02, ranks among Duke's career leaders in batting average (12th, .324), doubles (14th, 44) and home runs (T14th, 17).
