Five Maryland Baseball Recruits Hit The Field At Oriole Park At Camden Yards In The Crown High School All-Star Game
June 11, 2001
BALTIMORE, Md.- Five members of the first-ever recruiting class put together by recruiting coordinator Gregg Kilby and head coach Terry Rupp played in the 20th Crown High School All-Star game yesterday at Oriole Park at Camden Yards. The all-star contest took place following the Orioles 3-2 victory over the Montreal Expos and featured 30 of the best prep players from around the state.
Incoming freshmen recruits Chris Bowen (Glenelg, Md.), Will Frazier (Mitchellville, Md.), Jason Maxey (Columbia, Md.), Brooks Norris (Baltimore, Md.) and Joe Sargent (Chesapeake Beach, Md.) played a pivotal role in the game's outcome.
Sargent and Norris played on the North squad while Bowen, Frazier and Maxey represented the South team. With the bases loaded in the fourth inning, Sargent slapped a single to right to score two runs and give the North a 2-0 advantage. The North added another run in the inning to grab a 3-0 lead.
The South team scored once in the fifth inning thanks to Bowen, who smacked a triple, and was later named his team's MVP.
The North squad added an insurance run in the seventh to close out the scoring at 4-1. Norris also chipped in with a double for the winners.
