ACCOLADES Florida State and NC State are among the final 16 teams that remain in contention for the 2012 NCAA Division I Championship ... Both teams will compete in Super Regional action this weekend in hope of advancing to the College World Series, which gets under way on June 15, at Omaha, Neb. ... Florida State, seeded third nationally, will remain at home for its best-of-three Super Regional series against Stanford, which opens Friday ... NC State, which finished second behind the Seminoles in the ACC's Atlantic Division, hits the road to face No. 1 national seed Florida ... That series opens Saturday in Gainesville, Fla. ... Duke pitcher Marcus Stroman (22nd overall to Toronto), Florida State outfielder James Ramsey (23rd overall to St. Louis) and Clemson third baseman Richie Shaffer (25th overall to Tampa Bay) were selected in the opening round of the 2012 Major League Baseball Draft ... Georgia Tech pitcher Luke Bard went 42nd overall to Minnesota as a first-round comp selection. BY THE NUMBERS 1 - One freshman -- NC State starting pitcher Carlos Rodon -- is among the three finalists for the 2012 Golden Spikes Award. 3 - NC State is gearing up for its third Super Regional appearance after previously reaching the final 16 of the NCAA tournament in 2003 and 2008. 3 - Number of ACC players selected in the first round of the 2012 Major League Baseball Draft (Duke pitcher Marcus Stroman, Florida State infielder James Ramsey and Clemson third baseman Richie Shaffer). It marks the eighth straight year that at least three ACC players were taken in the first round. 7 - The ACC placed seven teams in the 2012 NCAA Baseball Championship. The conference has placed at least five teams in the field each of the past 11 years and at least six teams each of the past nine seasons.
