COLLEGE PARK, Md.- Incoming freshman Justin Maxwell (Olney, Md.) was drafted today by the Baltimore Orioles in the 43rd round of the Major League Baseball draft. Maxwell (6-5, 190) is a rangy center fielder from Sherwood High School and one of two outfielders to sign with the Terps during the spring signing period.
As a senior at Sherwood, Maxwell batted above .400 with over 15 stolen bases. Maxwell is the first player with Maryland ties to be drafted since former Terrapin Craig Munroe was selected in the 11th round by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 1999 MLB draft.
