Greensboro, N.C. - Earlier this year, Greensboro Grasshoppers' President and General Manager Donald Moore received the 2010 Unsung Community Hero Award. The Bryan Foundation, which presents the award annually, gave $25,000 in Moore's honor to the Atlantic Coast Conference allowing area elementary school students to attend the 2010 ACC Baseball Tournament at the Grasshoppers' NewBridge Bank Park. "We appreciate having such a terrific partnership with Donald Moore and the Greensboro Grasshoppers," said ACC Commissioner John Swofford. "Donald is certainly deserving of this prominent recognition and what an incredible impact this will have on the ACC Baseball Championship and the City of Greensboro."
The award recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions to the community, but whose good works are not widely recognized.
"I am extremely humbled to have been selected from amongst my peers for this prestigious distinction," said Moore. "As a lifelong resident of Greensboro, I have tremendous passion for this community and the potential that it holds."
Because of the partnership between the Greensboro Grasshoppers and the Atlantic Coast Conference, more than 2,000 tickets were donated to over 20 area schools participating in the Positive Behavior Support (PBS) program. Schools used the donated tickets as an incentive for students meeting each school's PBS expectations.
The children and teachers received tickets to one of the 12 noon games on Wednesday, Thursday or Friday of the tournament and lunch consisting of pizza, a drink, chips and a cookie.
