Georgia Tech vs. North Carolina Quotes

May 25, 2003

Georgia Tech Head Coach Danny Hall
(On his pitching strategy at this point)
You just try to stay alive. We still have some guys to throw. (Andrew) Kown is our next guy to get a start and you hope that he does well. Anytime a starter goes out there and does well it saves your bullpen. We are starting him and we hope that he can pitch pretty deep into the game.

(On recent outings)
I felt like last night we knew we had the prospects of playing three games that we still have enough pitching to win the tournament. And I still feel that way.

(On balancing Goodman's performance)
I think that is to his credit. He had that tough inning where he gave up four runs, but after that it was all zeros. We were trying to get as many innings as possible from him and he did a good job.

(On battle of attrition)
Even trying to win a game we are not going to put someone in danger in their pitch count. Anytime they get over 100 we ask them how they feel. To his credit he had a real quick seventh inning. Had he not had a quick seventh inning we would have taken him out after seven innings.

North Carolina Head Coach Mike Fox
Georgia Tech just beat us in two innings. Big innings really hurt you in any ACC game, any baseball game. They had two of them and Bo (Dickerson) did a great job getting the double play there. I thought the key for them was just that Goodman got better as the day went on and held us down and we couldn't get anything generated offensively. The last inning was a little too late.

(On thinking about last night's loss to NC State)
We try not to look back. We try not to replay these close games over and over and over again - the results never change. I replayed that one over again and the result came out the same. We try to take things from this tournament and hope to use them next weekend. I think we're an NCAA Tournament team, but we'll anxiously wait and see what the committee does tomorrow. We'll regroup and keep our season going. I like our team and I like the way we battled at the end - I've got a good bunch. I thought we played well up here, we made one error in four game and hit in double figures in three of four. We just came up a little short, but we lost to a very good team.

(On whether the day lost to rain has made this Tournament a battle of attrition)
We're all in the same boat. We all have to get up and play. Rain is part of baseball. It was kind of neat getting up this morning and thinking we could play three games today. I am sure Georgia Tech did the same thing. We challenged our team to do something unique today - play 27 innings. You have to look at it from a positive standpoint.
