  • Game Recap

Georgia Tech Head Coach Danny Hall
The fact that we scored nine runs in the first inning really set the tone of the game early. We took control early. We got contributions from a lot of people. This is the kind of day that you like to have.

(On keeping Walker in the game for nine innings)
We were very determined (to keep him on the mound). We have a potential of playing a lot of games at this point in the season. The longer you can stick with your starting pitcher, the better you are.

    Georgia Tech Pitcher Aaron Walker
    (On pitching nine innings)
I didn't want to waste the bull pen. Like coach said earlier, we have to win a lot more games. It takes a lot of pressure off when you have a lead like we did. After we scored nine runs in the first, I just tried to keep them off balance.

    Georgia Tech Jeremy Slayden
(On coming into today worried after last night's loss to NC State)
No, I don't think we were worried. I think we were more serious. Coach Hall told us we needed to go into the game with a business-like attitude and I think we did. We went into the game knowing we had a job to do. We felt like we could beat Duke and that we were better than them. We had to get the job done and we did it.

    Duke Head Coach Bill Hillier
I knew after six hitters that we were in trouble. I think it was 5-0 at that point and I feel bad for Kevin Thompson. He has had a very tough career and he is so much better than that. He has decided to come back as a fifth year guy next year and he has pitched awesome for us at times this year. If you are wondering why his ERA is up it is because of these types of outings. He was real good for me two years ago but he had shoulder surgery and they shrunk his shoulder. It will be two years this month and I told him after I took him out that he needs to work hard this summer to get back to where he was. He is a competitive kid. I told my guys that we have to give credit to Georgia Tech. They hit everything we threw. In the first inning we kicked it around a little bit. We just don't play consistently. We just did give ourselves a chance.
