Virginia head coach Dennis Womack:
"First of all, congratulations to North Carolina on winning, and also
for coming out just smoking. They hit Kamrath and they hit him hard,
but I've also got to give credit to our guys. Down 8-0, you can roll
over, but our guys actually took the lead. We couldn't hold it, but that
has been one of those things that has been going on with us all year.
You've got to take your hats off to our kids. We battled hard, but just
came up short in the end. North Carolina did what they had to do, and
got runs when they needed to at the end of the game."
North Carolina head coach Mike Fox:
"We got out to the big lead and obviously we just had to hold on. I
give a lot of credit to Virginia for coming back, they outscored us 10-0
over three innings. We just couldn't seem to get them out. They got a
couple big hits, like the ball to right field, and really the momentum
was with them. I give our team a lot of credit for coming back and
winning the game. We did get some help from them obviously with their
bullpen. It came down to the battle of the bullpens, and Carter got it
done. We are happy to win the first one, which we haven't done in a
while, so that is a good feeling."
