New ACC Baseball Championship Logo Makes Debut
May 14, 2008
GREENSBORO, N.C. - The Atlantic Coast Conference and Fenway Sports Group has unveiled the official logo for the 2009 ACC Baseball Championship, which will be held May 20-24, 2009 at renowned Fenway Park.
Home of the Boston Red Sox, Fenway will serve as the official championship site for the 36th Annual ACC Tournament in 2009. The historic park will not only host its first collegiate baseball championship next year, but it is among the elite few major league ballparks to have ever conducted a Division I conference baseball tournament.
"New England is a hot bed for amateur baseball and Fenway Park is a venue steeped in baseball tradition," said FSG Executive Vice President Chuck Steedman. "We are thrilled to bring the ACC Baseball Championship to Fenway and look forward to showcasing the stars of tomorrow, some of which will likely return as professionals."
The opportunity to play at Fenway Park will provide both unique and memorable experiences for both student-athletes and fans alike.
The change in venue marks the first time since 2004 the ACC Championship will be conducted above North Carolina state lines. The league tournament was held in Salem, Va., in 2003 and 2004, which drew a combined 41,368 fans.
Several talented players from the ACC have been tapped by the Red Sox since the league began competition in baseball in 1954. Currently, the ACC boasts seven former players including first base coach Luis Alicea (Florida State), five who are listed on the active roster - Alex Cora (Miami), Kevin Cash (Florida State), J.D. Drew (Florida State), Javier Lopez (Virginia) and Jason Varitek (Georgia Tech) - and one on the 40-man roster (Daniel Bard, North Carolina).
Tickets will be available for public sale starting September 1. More details will be available at theACC.com at a later date.
