GREENSBORO, N.C. - Thirteen baseball student-athletes from seven Atlantic Coast Conference schools were selected to the 2008 ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District Baseball Teams as selected by CoSIDA, which were released Thursday. Georgia Tech led all schools with four selections in District 3, as outfielder Charlie Blackmon was the lone Yellow Jacket on the first team and pitcher Zach Von Tersch, catcher Jason Haniger and third-baseman Brad Feltes were third-teamers. Six other schools were also represented in District 3, while Boston College's Nicholas Asselin was the lone pick in District 1. Duke, Florida State and Wake Forest each secured a pair of nods with the Seminoles landing two on the first team in pitcher Matt Fairel and catcher Buster Posey. Rounding out the academic contingent were North Carolina and Virginia with one placement. Cavalier pitcher Andrew Carraway earned first-team honors, while Tar Heel hurler Adam Warren was tabbed for the second unit. Along with first-team honorees Blackmon (Georgia Tech), Fairel and Posey (Florida State) and Carraway (Virginia), Duke infielder Nate Freiman will join the group on the Academic All-America ballot. To be nominated, the student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) for his/her career. No athlete is eligible until he/she has reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at his/her current institution (thus, true freshmen, red-shirt freshmen and ineligible transfers are not eligible). In the cases of transfers, graduate students and junior college graduates, the athlete must have completed one full academic year at the nominating institution to be eligible. 2008 ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District Baseball Teams DISTRICT 1 - UNIVERSITY DIVISION DISTRICT 3 - UNIVERSITY DIVISION SECOND TEAM THIRD TEAM
