Tar Heels Travel To Clemson For Crucial ACC Baseball Series

North Carolina (34-15, 11-7 ACC) heads south to take on the 14th ranked Clemson Tigers (33-16, 10-8 ACC) in a pivotal three game ACC series. The Tar Heels enter the weekend ranked fourth in the conference while the Tigers are at UNC's heels with a 10-8 conference record, good for fifth in the ACC.

The Tar Heels have dropped three of their last five games after losing a weekend series at NC State then being shutout 5-0 by UNC-Wilmington on May 2. Carolina rebounded with a 10-0 victory over Tim Stauffer and the 13th ranked Richmond Spiders on Thursday evening at Boshamer Stadium.

Daniel Moore (5-2, 3.59 ERA) will take the mound for UNC at 1 p.m. on Saturday afternoon at Doug Kingsmore Stadium. Adam Kalkhof (7-1, 3.84 ERA) gets the ball in Sunday's game which will begin at 2 p.m., while Garry Bakker (6-2, 3.54 ERA) is slated to start Monday's third and final game for Carolina.

* Mike Fox vs. Clemson: 5-7 reg. season, 0-1 ACC Tournament

* Last Season: The Tigers came into Chapel Hill ranked number one in the country and took the first two games from the Tar Heels before Carolina won the third game, avoiding a sweep.

* April 12, 2002: Clemson 11, UNC 7 The score was tied 7-7 heading into extra innings, but Clemson put four runs on the board in the top of the tenth highlighted by David Slevin's game-winning double to center field. Sean Farrell went 3-for-5 with his ninth home run for Carolina in the game.

* April 13, 2002: Clemson 4, UNC 2 In front of a capacity crowd of 3,015 people, the top ranked Tigers held off the Tar Heels thanks to a strong pitching performance from Matt Henrie. Henrie went 8.1 innings and allowed just one run on seven hits to collect his seventh victory. Chris Iannetta and Chris Maples had two hits apiece for Carolina in the loss.

* April 14, 2002: UNC 12, Clemson 5 The 21st ranked Tar Heels pounded out 14 hits and Carter Harrell cruised on the mound as Carolina took the final game in the series. UNC got seven runs in the third inning and seven different Tar Heels recorded two hits. Harrell pitched 5.2 strong innings out of the bullpen to collect his sixth win of the season.

Cleveland Having Breakout Season

Jeremy Cleveland is threatening a number of Carolina's single season offensive records thanks to a phenomenal season at the plate to this point.

Cleveland is on pace to become just the fourth modern-era player ever to hit .400 in a season at Carolina. The junior from Fairfax, Virginia enters the weekend series with a .431 batting average . He leads the Tar Heels in most offensive categories including home runs (16), RBIs (55), runs (62) and slugging percentage (.796).
