![]() Florida State's Buster Posey and Miami's Enrique Garcia Garner Weekly ACC Baseball Honors
April 16, 2007 GREENSBORO, N.C. - Florida State's Buster Posey has been selected Atlantic Coast Conference Baseball Player of the Week for April 16, while Miami's Enrique Garcia collects Pitcher of the Week accolades for the first time this season.
In last weekend's series sweep of Virginia Tech, Posey went 5-for-12 with two RBI and three doubles while hitting .416. He was also solid from behind the plate last week as he converted on all 29 fielding attempts. The catcher is the third Seminole to receive player of the week recognition in the last three weeks. Garcia, who hails from Mechanicsville, Md., struck out a career-high 12 batters in his first career complete game. It was Miami's first complete game thrown this season and first since last March. Garcia tossed eight scoreless innings, limiting NC State to three hits before surrendering two hits and one run in the ninth inning. He retired the first eight batters he faced and retired 12 of the 13 batters from the fifth to the eighth innings. The junior hurler becomes the third Hurricane pitcher to garner the league's weekly award since Miami joined the ACC in 2005. FSU and Miami will each host a single game Wednesday, April 18, with the top-ranked Seminoles taking on in-state rival Florida while the Hurricanes play North Florida. -ACC-
