April 14, 2008

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Miami's Blake Tekotte and Virginia's Andrew Carraway have been tabbed Atlantic Coast Conference Baseball Performers of the Week for their performances on the field the week of April 7-13. Tekotte collected his first league honor as Player of the Week this season, while Carraway earned his second Pitcher of the Week recognition.

Tekotte, a junior from Columbia, Mo., helped top-ranked Miami to a 4-1 week including a big series sweep at 10th-ranked Georgia Tech. Against the Yellow Jackets, the centerfielder collected multiple hits in all three games as he hit .600 (9-for-15) with seven runs scored, nine RBI and three home runs. In Saturday's doubleheader, he went 7-for-10 with three home runs and eight RBI which included a career-best 4-for-4, four runs and seven RBI performance in the second game. Tekotte is currently hitting .390 on the season from his leadoff spot, while posting 15 extra-base hits including six home runs, six doubles, three triples and 28 RBI.

A junior from Marietta, Ga., Carraway pitched a career-high seven innings in Sunday's 11-4 win at Maryland as the 24th-ranked Cavaliers closed out the week with a perfect 5-0 record. The right-handed hurler retired the first 10 batters of the game and allowed just four runners past first base. He struck out nine, one shy of his career high, and did not walk a batter in earning the win.

Both Miami and Virginia have four games on their slates this week, including a three-game conference series. The Hurricanes will hit the road to play FAU on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. before heading to longtime rival Florida State for a three-game series this weekend.

Virginia returns to the diamond Tuesday, hosting Coastal Carolina at 5 p.m. The Cavaliers then remain at home this weekend to entertain Wake Forest for three games.
