GREENSBORO, N.C. - Tony Thomas, Jr., of Florida State has been selected Atlantic Coast Conference Baseball Player of the Week for the third time this season, while Eric Niesen collects his first Pitcher of the Week accolades.

A junior from Valrico, Fla., Thomas had a career week as he hit .579 in four games going 11-for-19 with five home runs, five singles and a double. He scored nine times, registered eight RBI, and was a perfect 4-for-4 in the stolen base category. Thomas tallied 27 total bases and slugged 1.421 for the week to lead the Seminoles to three wins including a series victory on the road at Duke. He was also perfect in the field, converting on all 16 opportunities at second base.

Against Duke over the weekend, Thomas hit .643 (9-for-14) and tallied five home runs, eight runs scored and eight RBI. He posted career-highs with two home runs and nine total bases in game one and led off the second game with a double and later hit a solo shot for his third home run of the series. In the series finale, Thomas set a career high with 10 total bases and tied career-highs in runs scored (4) and home runs (2).

Wake Forest's Eric NiesenNiesen did not allow a run in three appearances last week. The left-handed pitcher turned in the best start of his career on Sunday when he pitched 8.1 innings of shutout ball at North Carolina and led Wake Forest to a 6-0 win over the Tar Heels. The win marked the first time the Tar Heels were shutout this season. Niesen threw 110 pitches, 74 for strikes, in Sunday's outing and his performance helped the Demon Deacons snap a four-game losing streak and salvage the final game of the three-game set with the Tar Heels.

The junior from New Boston, Mich., also pitched twice in relief during the week. He threw a scoreless inning on Wednesday against Winthrop and a scoreless 0.2 innings on Friday against North Carolina.

Florida State and Wake Forest will be back on the field Tuesday before returning to conference play this weekend. The top-ranked Seminoles face longtime in-state rival Florida in Jacksonville, Fla., the host city of the 2007 ACC Baseball Championship. The Demon Deacons hit the road, making their first stop at Elon before traveling to Maryland for a three-game weekend series. Both games on Tuesday are scheduled for 7 p.m.
