GREENSBORO, N.C. - Florida State's Dennis Guinn and Clemson's Graham Stoneburner have been selected the recipients for this week's Atlantic Coast Conference baseball honors. Guinn becomes the third Seminole to be tabbed Player of the Week this season, while Stoneburner is the first Tiger since 2006 to garner Pitcher of the Week recognition.
Guinn, a senior first baseman, had a big week for No. 3 Florida State as he helped the Seminoles sweep a road series against Virginia Tech over the weekend to remain undefeated in ACC action. The native from Haines City, Fla., hit .643 in the series against the Hokies and led the team with nine hits in 14 at-bats, 10 RBI, three home runs and five doubles. His bases-loaded walk in the sixth inning brought the tying run across the plate in the second game, as FSU edged the Hokies for a thrilling 12-11 win. Guinn also tallied 23 total bases en route to posting a team-best 1.643 slugging percentage.
A redshirt freshman from Richmond, Va., Stoneburner recorded Clemson's first individual shutout since 2005 in a two-hit shutout of NC State on Sunday. In 9.0 innings pitched, he allowed only two hits and one walk while striking out seven. He threw 118 pitches in the game and did not let a Wolfpack player past second base. On the season, Stoneburner has a 4-0 record with a 2.70 ERA in five starts and one relief appearance.
Both Florida State and Clemson are back in action tomorrow before hitting the road to return to conference play this weekend. FSU hosts Stetson on Tuesday and Wednesday with the Wednesday's game being televised on FSN at 6 p.m., while Clemson entertains Elon on Tuesday and Wednesday with the first pitch for both games set at 7:15 p.m.
