![]() Virginia's Greg Miclat and North Carolina's Robert Woodard Garner Weekly ACC Baseball Honors
Feb. 19, 2007 GREENSBORO, N.C. - Virginia's Greg Miclat has been selected Atlantic Coast Conference Baseball Player of the Week for February 19, while North Carolina's Robert Woodard earned Pitcher of the Week accolades. Miclat, a sophomore from Concord, N.C., helped the No. 8 Cavaliers (4-1) notch a pair of wins against George Washington. In the first game of the series on Saturday, the shortstop helped UVa shut out the Colonials 11-0 as he drove in three RBI and tallied a pair of triples on four hits while batting .800. Miclat followed up the next day with five hits, two RBI, one double, one triple and three stolen bases and a 1.000 batting average. In two games against GWU over the weekend, Miclat went 9-for-10 at the plate collecting five RBI, three triples, three runs, one double and a .900 batting average. He was also successful in all four attempts to steal a base.
Woodard won for the 19th time in his last 20 decisions and improved to 24-3 in his career. He is now tied for fifth all-time at Carolina in victories and improved his career winning percentage to .889, which equals Scott Bankhead's school record. The Walnut Cove, N.C., native also moved into Carolina's top 10 in career innings pitched with his effort Friday. For his performance, Woodard recently was also named Collegiate Baseball National Player of the Week. The eighth-ranked Virginia Cavaliers are back on the field Monday afternoon, looking to wrap up its series against George Washington with a sweep at 3 p.m. No. 2 North Carolina will travel to UNC Wilmington on Wednesday, February 21, for the Tar Heels' first of three non-conference games on the road this season.
