OMAHA, Neb. - Mike Ziegler pitched a five-hitter and Ryan Barthelemy hit his fifth career College World Series home run Monday night as Florida State staved off elimination with a 6-2 victory over Texas.

Ziegler retired 15 of the final 17 batters. He had sat down 13 consecutive Texas batters before Matt Rosenberg singled with one out in the ninth. Two batters later, Tommy Nicholson doubled, scoring Rosenberg.

Nicholson had two hits for the Longhorns (46-21).

But Ziegler (10-4) got Ben Emond to fly out to end the game, his 11th fly ball out. The junior right-hander struck out five without a walk.

The Seminoles face Southern California on Tuesday in another elimination game.

Ziegler started and finished with a flurry. He retired nine of the first 10 Longhorns before giving up a hit to Todd West in the fourth inning. West scored three batters later on Chris Houser's single.

But Ziegler went right back to work.

He sat down the next 12 Texas batters in order, giving him four straight 1-2-3 innings. He had seven three-up, three-down innings total.

The game took 2 hours, 17 minutes, the fastest CWS game since 1995.

The Seminoles (52-18) led off the game with three consecutive hits, but only got one run out of the bases-loaded situation.

Texas starter Phil Seibel hit Karl Jernigan, scoring Chris Smith. But then Seibel got Pichi Balet to ground into a double play.

FSU added two runs in the fourth and one in the fifth.

Again, the Seminoles got three straight hits. Mike Futrell's single up the middle scored Jernigan, and Balet came home on a wild pitch to put Florida State ahead 3-0.

John-Ford Griffin hit a solo home run in the fifth, his ninth of the season, to give the Seminoles a 4-1 lead.

Seibel (5-2) was pulled in the sixth after giving up his only walk of the game. He allowed eight hits and four runs and struck out six.

Barthelemy, who went 4-for-4 with two homers and three RBIs in the 'Noles opening loss to Southern California, made it 6-1 in the eighth with a two-run homer, his 13th of the season and fifth all-time at Rosenblatt Stadium.
