![]() Bakker Blanks Maryland For First Complete Game Of Season

(AP) -- Garry Bakker pitched a five-hitter and Chris Iannetta homered and drove in four runs Thursday as North Carolina beat Maryland 14-0 in the second round of the ACC tournament. Bakker (5-5) struck out eight in his first complete game of the year. One day after the tournament featured four one-run games for the first time, the Tar Heels (39-18) led 6-0 after six innings and just kept scoring as Chase Younts had five hits and Greg Mangum three. The Tar Heels will play the winner of the second losers' bracket game between Virginia and North Carolina State in an elimination game Friday. Iannetta hit a sacrifice fly in the third, his 13th home run with a man on in the sixth and doubled home another run in the seventh. Younts had five straight hits and scored three times, one day after a collision knocked him out on the first play of a first-round game. Mangum also scored three times as the Tar Heels finished with 14 hits and benefited from five Maryland errors. Ben Pfinsgraff (4-5) took the loss. He allowed eight hits and eight
runs, six of them earned, in 5 2-3 innings.
