JACKSONVILLE, Fla.(AP) - Tommy Giles and Jon Jay hit solo home runs and Manny Miguelez permitted just one run over seven innings as Miami earned a 4-1 win over Wake Forest to eliminate the Demon Deacons from the Atlantic Coast Conference Baseball Tournament at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville.

The win was the first in four tournament games the last two years for the Hurricanes who lost both games last year and suffered a 2-1 loss to Georgia Tech on Wednesday.

Miami (36-20) jumped to an early 2-0 lead when Giles clubbed his ninth homer of the season in the top of the first inning and Jay followed with his fifth home run in leading off the fourth inning.

The Canes hiked their lead to 3-0 in the sixth inning when Dennis Raben led off with a single and came around to score on Roger Tomas' single three batters later. Miami pushed across its final run when Jay opened the eighth with a long double and scored on Raben's RBI-single.

That was enough to support Miguelez' pitching who scattered four hits and one walk in his seven innings. The Deacons were able to get to the sophomore left hander just once, using a leadoff double by Andy Goff and a sacrifice fly by Brett Linnenkohl two batters later. The seven innings turned in by Miguelez was his longest effort since April 1 when he went that distance against Clemson.

Miami reliever Chris Perez held Wake Forest (33-22) in check the last two innings, allowing two hits and a walk.

Jay and Raben each had three hits for the Canes who will meet the loser of Thursday night's game between Clemson and Georgia Tech in the 7 p.m. game on Friday.
