Four Home Runs Lift FSU To 13-4 Victory Over Clemson

CLEMSON, S.C. - Third-ranked Florida State (39-7, 21-5 ACC) captured its second straight win over Clemson (24-22-1, 10-15-1) with a 13-4 victory Saturday night at Doug Kingsmore Stadium. FSU pounded out 17 hits including eight for extra bases on four home runs, three doubles and a triple. Eleven different Seminoles registered a base hit while the 13 runs were the most scored on the Tigers in the series since a 20-5 Florida State victory in Tallahassee back on April 5, 1997.

Florida State scored in six of the nine innings while nine of the 13 runs scored in game two came on two outs. It was the fifth time this year that the Seminole offense has hit at least four home runs in a game. The last four home run game came in the curfew shorten 7 inning thriller against the Hurricanes.

Five Seminoles collected multiple RBIs in game two while Tony Delmonico and Stuart Tapley led all hitters with three hits apiece. Delmonico finished the game with a team-high three RBIs.

Dietrich Leads Georgia Tech to 11-4 Win Over No. 15 Coastal Carolina

ATLANTA - Derek Dietrich collected three hits and drove in five runs to lead Georgia Tech (33-14) to an 11-4 victory over No. 15 Coastal Carolina (38-11) Sunday afternoon at Russ Chandler Stadium. The win helped Tech to its second-straight weekend series victory after defeating Wake Forest in two of three games a week ago.

Dietrich drove in runs in the first, fifth, sixth and eighth innings and hit his 14th home run of the season as the Yellow Jackets pushed their streak to 15-consecutive games with a home run. Dietrich is the only freshman in the Atlantic Coast Conference with more than 10 home runs this season and leads all freshmen while standing second in the league with 56 RBI on the year.

Joining Dietrich with three hits on the afternoon was Patrick Long, who went 3-for-4 with a run scored, while Charlie Blackmon went 2-for-4 with three runs and two RBI in the game.

No. 1 Miami Completes Sweep of Saint Mary's, 15-3

CORAL GABLES, Fla. - Junior right fielder Dennis Raben tied career-highs going 4-for-4 with four RBI including his sixth home run and No. 1 Miami tied a season-high with 17 hits in a 15-3 win over Saint Mary's (Calif.) Sunday afternoon at Mark Light Field. Miami (39-5) picked up its sixth three-game series sweep of the season with the win, out-scoring Saint Mary's (22-22-1) 30-to-9 on the weekend.

Raben, who tied career-highs in hits and RBI, reached base in all five plate appearances with a walk in the first inning, a single in the second, a home run in the fourth and two more singles in the sixth and seventh innings. Blake Tekotte had three hits for the sixth time this season, going 3-for-4 with three runs scored while three other Hurricanes - Mark Sobolewski, Adan Severino and Jason Hagerty - all finished with two hits.

Virginia Tech Sweeps Presbyterian, 7-1 and 6-5

BLACKSBURG, Va. - A walk-off RBI single in the bottom of the tenth inning by designated hitter Matt Blow lifted the Virginia Tech baseball team to a 6-5 win in game two of a Sunday afternoon doubleheader at English Field with non-conference foe Presbyterian College.

The Hokies (20-27) also claimed game one by a score of 7-1 behind a stellar performance from starter Rhett Ballard (High Point, N.C.) to complete the sweep and drop the visiting Blue Hose to 12-32.

With game two tied at five heading into the 10th inning, center fielder Sean Ryan (Ashburn, Va.) led off with a double and moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by shortstop/third baseman Matt Hacker (Richmond, Va.). After first baseman Sean O'Brien (Chappaqua, N.Y.) was intentionally walked and second baseman Austin Wates (Richmond, Va.) popped out, Blow came to the dish and ended the game with a hit down the left-field line that would have potentially scored two if Ryan's run wasn't the clincher. It capped a 2-for-5, three-RBI performance for Blow (Richmond, Va.), who also had a two-run single in the sixth inning.

No. 18 Wolfpack Recovers, Defeats High Point, 4-2

RALEIGH, N.C. - Tommy Foschi and Drew Martin, the bottom of the NC State batting order, combined to drive in three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning, and four Wolfpack relievers combined on a six-hitter to lift the 18th-ranked Pack to a 4-2 victory over High Point on Sunday at Doak Field at Dail Park.

NC State, which won for the 18th time in its last 23 games, improved to 32-14 with the win. High Point fell to 18-25 with the loss. High Point won the opening game of the two-game series Saturday night, 9-6. The Wolfpack's victory on Sunday earned the Pack a split of the two-game series.

The three-run outburst made a winner of starter Eric Sogard (2-1). The redshirt-sophomore lefthander worked five innings, allowed one run on four hits, walked one and struck out five.
