The Tigers, who took a 2-0 series lead, improved to 32-15 overall and 16-10 in the ACC. The Terrapins fell to 22-26 overall and 6-20 in ACC play.

Florida State Defeats Virginia Tech 9-4 To Complete Three-Game Sweep
Florida State (33-12, 18-7 ACC) continued its winning ways completing the three-game sweep of Virginia Tech with a 9-4 victory Sunday afternoon on Mike Martin Field inside Dick Howser Stadium. The Seminoles extended their win streak to a season-best 12 games which currently stands as the longest streak in the nation. It also marked the third straight conference series sweep for the Garnet and Gold.

Trailing 3-2 in the bottom of the fifth, Mike Meschke gave Florida State the lead for good on Sunday with a three-run double. With the bases loaded, the Seminole first baseman drilled a 2-0 pitch to the gap in right center off Hokie reliever Mathew Price clearing the bases on his sixth double of the season. Meschke would later score on an RBI single through the right side by Parker Brunelle to cap the four-run fifth.

In the third, the Seminoles got out of a bases loaded, no out jam by turning a triple play. With Mike Kaminski at the plate, FSU starter Mike McGee got the Hokie right fielder to fly out to Ruairi O'Connor in right. O'Connor threw a one hopper to Parker Brunelle at the plate to get Steve Bumbry trying to tag from third for the second out. Brunelle then threw on to Stidham at second to get Austin Wates for the 9-2-4 triple play. It was the first triple play since the Seminoles turned one in a 13-5 victory over Long Island on March 12, 1997 in Daytona Beach.

Burnette finished the game 6-for-6 with nine RBI and five runs scored. His six hits, three doubles, three home runs and nine RBI all tied Georgia Tech single-game records, while his 18 total bases broke Pete Geist's 25-year old record of 15.
