Baseball Edges Quinnipiac, 13-10

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The Boston College baseball team scored three times in the bottom of the eighth with a tie game and senior Harry Darling delivered the game-winning hit as the Eagles beat Quinnipiac, 13-10, on Tuesday with record-setting heat at Eddie Pellagrini Diamond at Commander Shea Field.

Darling also added another RBI on a sacrifice fly. Sophomore Matt Hamlet was a perfect 5-for-5 at the plate with two doubles and three runs. Both of those numbers are career highs. Juniors Robbie Anston and John Spatola both had three hits in the game. Anston also had an RBI and three runs with a double while Spatola had a two-run homer.

Four other Eagles had multi-hit games. Redshirt freshman Andrew Lawrence went 2-for-3 and drove in three runs while also robbing the Bobcats of runs when he brought back a ball from behind the fence in left field.

Sophomore Kevin Moran picked up his fourth win of the season on the bump after working 1.1 innings and allowing just one runner.

Terps Score 16 Unanswered Runs in 17-10 Victory against James Madison

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Terrapins set season highs in runs, home runs and doubles against the James Madison Dukes Tuesday afternoon at Shipley Field and the University of Maryland baseball scored the final 16 runs of the game to overcome an early 10-1 deficit en route to a 17-10 victory.

The Terps (21-24) hit four home runs and seven doubles on the way to their 17-run outburst, Second baseman David Poutier drove in a career-high five runs, going 3-for-5 with a homer and two doubles. Freshman catcher Tyler Bennett had a career day as well, going 3-for-5 with a two-run homer and career-high four RBIs. Senior Will Greenberg added a pair of doubles and three RBIs.

The Dukes (27-19) got to work right away against Maryland starting pitcher Eric Potter. Alex Foltz drove the first pitch of the game into the left-center field gap for a double and David Herbek drove him in two batters later with an RBI double down the left-field line. Herbek later scored on a sacrifice fly and Matt Browning gave the Dukes an early 3-0 lead with a two-out homer to left-center field.

Zecchino's complete game lifts Hokies over High Point

BLACKSBURG, Va. – Redshirt freshman pitcher Marc Zecchino tossed a complete game eight-hitter to lead the Virginia Tech baseball team to a 9-1 victory over visiting High Point University on Tuesday evening at English Field.

The right-hander from Hazlet, N.J., got some help from his offense as well, as the Hokies hit three home runs in a game that pushed their season record to 26-17. High Point dropped to 17-24.

With the Tech pitching staff running low on fresh arms and needing a lengthy outing, Zecchino delivered in a big way, tossing his first career complete game and earning his first win as a collegiate. He tied a personal best with five strikeouts, while allowing eight hits and just one walk. In his past two outings, Zecchino (1-3) has allowed just two earned runs over 15 innings, lowering his ERA by nearly four full points.

No. 13 Miami Drops Final Mid-Week Game to North Florida

CORAL GABLES, Fla. - The 13th-ranked University of Miami baseball team dropped its final mid-week game of the 2009 season, falling 10-1 to North Florida Tuesday night at Alex Rodriguez Park at Mark Light Field.

After taking a 1-0 lead after two, Miami (29-15) fell behind 2-1 in the third and 6-1 in the fifth before North Florida (18-24) eventually pulled away for the nine-run win.

Miami starter Jason Santana (6-1) suffered his first loss of the season, striking out five but allowing a season-high six earned runs on 10 hits in 4 2/3 innings. Sam Robinson allowed one uneared run in 1 2/3 innings in relief of Santana, before Kevin Youst, Travis Miller and John Housey finished out the game for UM.

Antonio Franzese started for UNF and allowed one run in two innings before Mike Gottlieb (1-0) came on in the third, tossing a scoreless frame to pick up his first win of the season. From there, four UNF pitchers - Phil Rorabaugh, Spencer Jones, Ty Pryor and John Frawley - combined to toss six scoreless the rest of the way.

Wake Forest Uses Complete Team Effort in 11-3 Win over Davidson

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest scored nine runs in the first four innings of the game and starter Michael Dimock allowed just one run in a career-high eight innings to lead the Demon Deacons to an 11-3 win over Davidson on Tuesday night at Wake Forest Baseball Park.

With the win, Wake Forest snaps its eight-game losing streak and improves to 21-23. Davidson drops to 17-22 with the loss.

Freshman pitcher Michael Dimock turned in the best outing of his college career to earn the win and improve to 4-3 on the season. The Greensboro, N.C., native threw a career-high eight innings and allowed just one run on five hits. He struck out a career-best seven batters and walked none. Mark Adzick closed out the game and retired all three batters he faced.

The Wake Forest offense made sure Dimock's outing would not be wasted by scoring in each of the first four innings. The Deacs scored twice in the first, three times in the second and third and once in the fourth inning.

No. 11 Baseball Douses Flames, Wins 5-2

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Jarrett Parker (So., Stafford, Va.) hit the go-ahead home run in the sixth inning and Matt Packer (So., Germantown, Tenn.) tossed 6.1 strong innings as the No. 11 Virginia baseball team defeated Liberty, 5-2, Tuesday at Davenport Field.

Parker hit his 13th home run this season to move into sole possession of eighth place on the UVa single-season home run chart. Danny Hultzen (Fr., Bethesda, Md.), Tyler Cannon (Jr., Pigeon Forge, Tenn.) and Steven Proscia (Fr., Suffern, N.Y.) each had two hits. John Hicks (Fr., Sandy Hook, Va.) added a key two-out, two-run single in the sixth inning.

Packer (3-4) started and allowed two earned runs, seven hits and one walk while striking out one as he won his second straight Tuesday start. He kept the ball down all night with 16 of his outs coming via ground balls. Tyler Wilson (So., Midlothian, Va.) bridged the gap with 1.2 scoreless innings of relief before Kevin Arico (So., Flemington, N.J.) pitched the ninth to nab his sixth save.
