![]() Kent Turns the Tables on Tech, 11-6
March 20, 1999 ATLANTA - Kent banged out 16 base hits, including home runs by Alex Marconi, Dave Mattle and Chris Holick, to back the pitching of Matt Guerrier as the Golden Flashes upended 10th-ranked Georgia Tech, 11-6, Saturday afternoon at Russ Chandler Stadium. Kent (4-6) built a 10-0 lead before the Yellow Jackets (17-6) could score, tagging Tech starter Simon Young (6-2) with his first loss since Feb. 7. Guerrier (1-1) shut out the Jackets on just four hits through six innings before Tech touched him for two runs on three hits in the seventh. The junior righthander struck out six and walked two in 6-1/3 innings. The Golden Flashes scored single runs in the first, second and fourth innings before Holick belted a two-run homer in the fifth to make the score 5-0. Kent added five more runs in the seventh, including a two-run homer by Marconi to increase the lead to 10-0. Mattle added a solo blast in the seventh. Jess Bechard added three RBI on three hits for the Golden Flashes. Derik Goffena drove in two runs on a pair of hits, and Mark Teixeira had a two-run homer to lead Tech. Young was lifted after 4-2/3 innings, having given up five runs on 10 hits. He fanned seven. The teams conclude their series at 1:30 p.m. Sunday.
