March 17, 1999 DURHAM, N.C. - The pitching trio of sophomore Ryan Caradonna (Tampa, Fla.), junior Chris (Springfield, Mass.) and senior Teddy Sullivan (Alexandria, Va.) combined to no-hit Coppin State (0-11-1) in the second game of a doubleheader as the Blue Devils (13-11) completed the three-game series sweep of the Eagles on Wednesday at Jack Coombs Field. Both games of Wednesdays doubleheader were called after five innings due to the 10-run rule with Duke holding 11-0 leads in both contests.
Caradonna (2-0) went three innings in the start, retiring all nine batters faced for the win. Capuano entered the game in fourth and retired the side with three strikeouts and Sullivan finished the shortened game with a three-up, three-down inning in the fifth.
In the game two, freshman Gideon Thompson (Highland Park, N.J.) provided an offensive spark with a 2-for-2 performance with three RBI and a run scored. Capuano also helped the Duke cause with his first-career hit, a two-run home run to right in the fourth inning.
In game one, it was freshman Kevin Kelly (Gloucester, N.J.) and sophomore Wes Goodner (Tampa, Fla.) leading the way at the plate. Kelly was 2-for-4 with three RBI and a run scored, while Goodner was 2-for-3 with three RBI.
Sophomore pitcher Tyler Lang (Santa Ana, Calif.) improved to 1-1 on the season, after allowing two hits in five innings of shutout baseball in game one.
