Holt's Homer Lifts Noles To Win Tyler Holt's two-run home run in the bottom of the eighth proved to be the difference, while Mike McGee (2-0) slammed the door shut on the Cavaliers recording the final five outs of the game to earn the win in relief. With the Seminoles trailing by one in the bottom of the eighth, Parker Brunelle drew a key one out walk on four pitches from Virginia reliever Tyler Wilson (2-1) which led to the game-winning hit by Holt. On a 2-2 offering, the junior centerfielder hit a fly ball out to left center that carried just beyond the wall and over the glove of UVa leftfielder David Coleman for Holt's second home run of the season and a 9-8 Seminole lead. No. 4 Tech Baseball Edges Wake Forest, 6-5, for Series Sweep The Jackets (13-1, 3-0 ACC) won their sixth-consecutive game, while Wake Forest fell to 6-10 overall and 0-3 in ACC play.
With one-out and junior Jeff Rowland on third, Leonida muscled the first pitched he saw from Wake Forest reliever Brandon Johnson (0-2) to right field, giving Rowland enough time to slide past the Demon Deacon catcher for the 6-5 lead, and the eventual win. #7 Clemson Walks Past N.C. State 7-6 Sunday to Sweep Series The Tigers jumped out to a 4-1 lead in the second inning, but N.C. State chipped away at the lead and eventually took a 6-5 lead in the seventh inning. But the Tigers took advantage of three straight walks with two outs in the eighth inning to score two runs. Wolfpack pitchers combined to walk eight batters in the game and 26 in the series. Tiger freshman righthander Jonathan Meyer (1-0) earned his first career win, as he retired all six batters he faced to close out the game. Wolfpack reliever Grant Sasser (2-1) suffered the loss, as he gave up one hit, two runs, and two walks in 0.2 innings pitched. No. 13 Miami Takes Series with 11-4 Win Over BC Sunday Miami (10-4, 2-1 ACC) has now won three-straight ACC series openers after claiming series wins over NC State last season and BC in 2008. Grandal, who hit safely in all three games against Boston College (6-8, 1-2 ACC), went 7-for-11 and tallied 13 total bases on the weekend. On Sunday, he drove in three, scored three times and recorded his second four-hit game of his career. Duke Takes Series from No. 11 North Carolina Duke (11-4, 2-1 ACC) trailed 3-2 heading into the eighth inning, but got consecutive two-out hits from freshman Eric Brady, who tied the game with a double, and Litwin, who drove in the game-winner with his two-strike single. Litwin, who entered the game in the seventh inning as a pinch runner, came to the plate in the eighth with runners on second and third and slapped a 2-2 offering from North Carolina reliever Greg Holt through the right side to score both runners. With the win, Duke takes the series from 11th-ranked North Carolina (12-4, 1-2 ACC). The victories give the Blue Devils their second straight series win over the Tar Heels after taking two out of three games in 2009 when the Tar Heels were the top-ranked team in the country. Tech claims series with 8-4 win over Maryland Tech claimed the three-game series with the win and improved to 11-4 overall and 2-1 in the ACC. Maryland dropped to 6-8 overall and 1-2 in league play. Trailing 1-0 heading into the sixth, Tech finally got on the scoreboard with three runs on three hits. After Anthony Sosnoskie led off the frame with a walk and Michael Seaborn doubled, Buddy Sosnoskie poked a single past Maryland’s diving shortstop to bring home his brother. A walk to Mike Kaminski loaded the bases before Seaborn was forced out at home on a fielder’s choice by Steve Domecus, but Austin Wates later delivered a two-run single to give Tech the lead. |
