Hokies fall to Bryant
Playing a rare Monday afternoon non-conference game, the Virginia Tech baseball team dropped a 7-5 decision to visiting Bryant University at English Field.
Bryant wasted little time getting on the scoreboard against Tech starting pitcher Sean McDermott (Walpole, Mass.). Leadoff batter Pat McKenna singled to right field to start the game for the Bulldogs, and second baseman Dylan Stone followed with a bunt single. Following a sacrifice bunt, McKenna came home as Pat O’Connor grounded out to shortstop. Catcher Jeff Vigurs punched another single to right field to score Stone before first baseman Jamie Skagerlind launched a ball that carried to deep center. Tech center fielder Klint Reed (Chesterfield, Va.) tracked down the fly ball only to see it dislodged from his glove when he crashed head-on into the center field fence. As Reed lay stunned, Vigurs and Skagerlind rounded the bases for an inside-the-park home run. Reed was treated and returned to the field with the visitors leading 4-0.
