![]() Tech Routs Rutgers for 10th Straight Win
March 6, 1999 ATLANTA - Georgia Tech slugged out 21 hits, including five home runs and eight doubles, overpowering Rutgers 19-5, while winning their tenth straight game. Tech (12-4) blew open a 2-1 third inning lead with 10 runs in the bottom of the third, the second time this week that Tech has scored ten or more times in an inning. Back to back home runs by freshman third baseman Mark Teixeira and sophomore first baseman Bryan Prince highlighted the inning, in which the first 8 Tech batters reached base safely, knocking out Rutgers pitcher Brian Delehanty (0-2). Teixeira, Prince, Jason Basil, and Jahmal Overton all contributed three hits on the day to the Jackets' total of 21. The Jackets added three more in the bottom of the fourth, keyed by solo home runs by Basil and Victor Menocal, a run in the bottom of the fifth, and three in the bottom of the seventh, including an Adam Blue home run, the fifth and final of the day for Tech. Cory Vance (3-2) was the beneficiary of the Jackets offensive output, as the sophomore left hander went five innings on the mound, scattering just one run and seven hits. The series concludes Sunday afternoon at 1:30 at Russ Chandler Stadium.
