No. 1 Cavaliers Pound Wright State for DH Sweep
The No. 1 Virginia baseball team finished off a hot day at the plate with a 13-3 victory over Wright State, Sunday afternoon, in the second game of a doubleheader at Davenport Field. In the first game, UVa pounded out 18 hits in an 11-5 win over Dartmouth.

Tyler Cannon (Sr., Pigeon Forge, Tenn.) had a big game at the plate, going 3-for-5 with five RBI. He had a key two-run triple to break open a one-run game in the seventh inning and then had a three-run double in the eighth inning. Cannon had eight RBI over the weekend. 

No. 1 Virginia Baseball Downs Dartmouth, 11-5
The top-ranked Virginia baseball team piled up 18 hits in an 11-5 victory over Dartmouth Sunday at Davenport Field. The game was the first in a UVa doubleheader, with the Cavaliers facing Wright State next at 3 p.m. Phil Gosselin (Jr., West Chester, Pa.) racked up four hits for the second straight game and now has nine hits in the three games this weekend. He also scored three times.

Kenny Swab (Jr., Kernersville, N.C.) added three hits and three RBI, while Stephen Bruno (Fr., Audubon, N.J.), in his first career start, went 3-for-3, drove in two and scored twice. Keith Werman (So., Vienna, Va.) had a pair of hits plus three RBI. 

A Perfect 10 As FSU Sweeps UGA
Third-ranked Florida State (10-0) registered its third series sweep of the season defeating No. 25 Georgia (6-6) 17-5 on a beautiful Sunday afternoon on Mike Martin Field inside Dick Howser Stadium. For the 15th consecutive game, the Seminole bats reached double figures in hits with 11, while showing some patience at the plate drawing a season-high 14 walks.

The 12-run victory by the Noles on Sunday tied for the largest margin of victory in the series as the Garnet and Gold defeated the Bulldogs 16-4 back on March 19, 1959.

FSU completed the three-game sweep outscoring Georgia 38-8. The Seminoles hit .369 as a team over the weekend compared to the .228 average posted by the Bulldogs. The Seminole pitching staff was nearly perfect allowing just six earned runs over 27.0 innings of work en route to a staff ERA of 2.00. 

Bradley Pitches No. 4 Jackets Past Rutgers, 9-4
Jed Bradley struck out nine batters, and five players recorded multiple hits as the No. 4 Georgia Tech baseball team (10-1) completed the series sweep of Rutgers (1-8) with a 9-4 win Sunday at Russ Chandler Stadium.

Bradley (2-1) was sharp on the mound in his third start of the season, allowing no runs and scattering just four Rutgers hits over 6.0 innings pitched. The sophomore left-hander fanned nine batters on the day, and now has 27 strikeouts in 17.0 innings on the season. He did not issue a single walk in the outing.

After a season-high 20 hits a day earlier, the Jackets tallied 14 on Sunday including six that went for extra-base hits.

#9 Tigers Trounce #15 Gamecocks 19-6 Sunday to Claim Series
Behind five home runs and 14 hits, #9 Clemson trounced #15 South Carolina 19-6 in front of 8,214 fans at Carolina Stadium on Sunday afternoon. It was Clemson's most runs scored against the Gamecocks since 1962 and the Tigers' largest margin of victory since 1997. The Tigers, who won the series 2-1, improved to 9-1, while South Carolina fell to 6-4.

The Tigers jumped out to an early 6-0 lead and never looked back, as it scored two runs in the fourth, three in the sixth, and eight combined runs in the final three innings. The Tigers totaled five home runs, including two grand slams. Clemson also walked 11 times, one reason the Gamecocks used eight pitchers in the game.

Chris Epps went 3-for-6 with a grand slam, a career-high five RBIs, and two runs to lead the Tigers. Epps was also given the Bob Bradley Award as Clemson's MVP of the three-game series against the Gamecocks. He was 7-for-14 with two homers, one double, six RBIs, six runs, two walks, and one steal in three games.

No.12 Tar Heels Earn Series Sweep, Wallop Wolverines 9-1
Junior Colin Bates allowed one earned run in 5.2 innings of work to lead No. 12 North Carolina over Michigan 9-1 Sunday in front of 2209 fans at Boshamer Stadium. Bates improves to 3-0 on the season and is perfect in three career starts on the mound. Ben Bunting and Ryan Graepel each posted three hits and two RBI, as North Carolina improves to 10-1 on the year. Michigan falls to 4-7 after the three-game series sweep.

The Tar Heel bullpen was spectacular in relief hurling 3.1 innings allowing only two hits, issuing no walks and striking out five. R.C. Orlan, Cody Penny, Zach Bernard, Bryant Gaines and Nate Striz all were impressive in relief. Gaines and Striz each made their first appearances of 2010 after recovering from minor off-season surgerys.

Michigan's Tyler Burgoon (2-1) suffers his first loss of the season after allowing six runs on eight Tar Heel hits. Reliever Brandon Sinnery also allowed three runs on five hits in just over an inning of relief work. The earned runs were the first Sinnery has allowed all season.

NC State Finishes Sweep Of Quinnipiac, 17-7
Dallas and Drew Poulk led a 17-hit attack with three hits apiece to lead NC State to a 17-7 victory over Quinnipiac and complete a three-game sweep of the Bobcats at Doak Field.

NC State improved to 10-1 with the victory while the Bobcats dropped to 0-3. Reliever Grant Sasser (2-0) was awarded the win after pitching a scoreless seventh inning. Quinnipiac starter Brian Monack (0-1) lasted four innings and was charged with eight runs, all earned.

Dallas Poulk, who moved to the two spot in the lineup earlier this week, went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles, scored five runs and drove in three. In four games batting in the two hole, he is 8-for-15 with two doubles, a home run, four walks, 11 runs scored and eight RBIs. In those four games, the high-flying NC State offense has scored 58 runs, an average of 14.5 runs per game. For the season, the Wolfpack has scored 148 runs in 11 games, an average of 13.5 per game.

Padula's Homer Lifts Terps Over Hofstra
Brandon Padula hit a three-run home run with two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning and Maryland completed a three-game sweep of Hostra with a 7-5 victory Sunday.

Padula, who has recorded three hits in four of the last five games, went 3-for-5 with four RBI and two runs on the day. The junior is now batting .568 this season, second-best in the Atlantic Coast Conference.

Maryland trailed 5-3 entering the bottom of the eighth. Catcher Jack Cleary led off and was hit by a pitch, then advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by pinch hitter Jon Wilson. After a David Poutier fly out, Alfredo Rodriguez kept the inning alive with a clutch single to right field that scored Cleary and brought Maryland within one.

Tech completes four-game sweep with 12-4 win over Long Island
Mathew Price pitched six scoreless innings and Virginia Tech tied a season-high with 19 hits to complete a four-game weekend baseball sweep of Long Island University with a 12-4 victory at English Field on Sunday.

The Hokies extended their winning streak to eight games and now stand 8-2 on the season. LIU fell to 1-7 with the loss.

Tech’s Price returned to the mound for the first time in more than two weeks after experiencing sinus problems. The sophomore right-hander turned in a workman-like six innings, scattering six hits without allowing a run, to even his record at 1-1. Left-hander Sean McDermott and right-handers Joe Parsons and Jake Joyce each pitched an inning of relief each to finish out the game. 

Brady Homers In 8-2 Win Over Temple
Freshman Eric Brady hit a three-run homer and classmate Marcus Stroman struck out seven hitters in four innings to lead Duke to an 8-2 win and a series sweep over Temple Sunday evening at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park.

Brady mashed his first career home run over the 32-foot left field wall as part of a five-run second inning for the Blue Devils (7-3), who won their sixth straight game and improved to 6-0 at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park. Stroman (2-0), meanwhile, came out of the bullpen to throw a career-high four innings in which he surrendered just one run on one hit.

Duke surrendered just two runs - only one earned - during the entire three-game series against Temple (0-10). Included in the series sweep were two consecutive shutouts and a streak of 27 consecutive innings in which Duke pitchers did not surrender an earned run. Over their past 32 innings, the Blue Devils have allowed just one earned run and now boast a 3.58 team ERA. 

Wake Forest Completes Sweep of Xavier with 12-10 Win
A sixth inning three-run home run from Shane Kroker led Wake Forest to a 12-10 come-from-behind victory and sweep of Xavier on Sunday afternoon at Gene Hooks Field at Wake Forest Baseball Park.

Xavier struck first, scoring two in the first inning, but Wake put four runs across in the second to take a 4-2 lead. The Deacons scored one run in both the third and fourth, but the Musketeers scored seven runs in the fifth and added one more in the sixth to go on-top 10-6. In the seventh, home runs from Ryan Semeniuk and Kroker sparked Wake to a six-run inning and gave the Deacs the lead for good.

The Demon Deacons even their record at 6-6, while the Musketeers fall to 1-9. 

Fifth-Ranked Gators Edge Out No. 10 Miami, 4-2
Florida's Bryson Smith hit a three-run home run in the top of the fourth which proved to be the difference as the No. 5 Gators defeated No. 10 Miami, 4-2, to clinch the three-game series Sunday afternoon at Alex Rodriguez Park.

For the second time in the series, the `Canes struggled offensively, collecting just four hits on the afternoon. Miami (7-3) had a 1-0 lead after three but was unable to bounce back following Smith's homer the following inning that put UF (7-2) ahead for good.

The lone bright spot offensively for the `Canes was Chris Pelaez, whose average actually dropped from .593 to .581 despite recording half of UM's hits with a 2-for-4 performance Sunday. 

Boston College Loses Series Finale At Florida Atlantic, 11-7
The Boston College baseball team lost the rubber match of a three-game series at Florida Atlantic, 11-7, Sunday afternoon at the FAU Baseball Stadium.

The Eagles got out to another early lead but gave up multiple runs in the first three innings to let it slip away.

Juniors Matt Hamlet and Mickey Wiswall hit back-to-back home runs in the top of the first to give BC the early 2-0 edge. It was Hamlet's second in as many games and it was also Wiswall's second of the season. Hamlet had two RBI in the game and Wiswall added a double and two runs.
