![]() Five-Run First Inning Powers Duke Past Mount St. Marys
February 20, 1999 DURHAM, N.C. - The Duke baseball team scored five runs in the first inning and never looking back as it posted 10-4 victory over visting Mount St. Marys on Saturday at Jack Coombs Stadium. The Blue Devils improve to 5-4, while the Mountaineers drop to 0-1.
Dukes charge was led by sophomore designated hitter Ryan Caradonna (Tampa, Fla.), who went 2-for-5 on the day with four RBI and two runs scored. The Blue Devils also got a pair of RBI singles from sophomore David Mason (Alexandria, Va.) and freshmen Kevin Kelly (Glouster, NJ) and Gideon Thompson (Highland Park, NJ) each added RBI singles.
Blue Devil junior pitcher Chris Capuano (Springfield, Mass.) improved to 2-0 on the year with a one run, one hit performance in seven innings of work. In 20 innings this season, Capuano has allowed only one run for a 0.45 ERA. The loss went to Mount St. Marys Chris Devins.
Duke and Mount St. Marys close out this weekend series with a Sunday doubleheader beginning at 1 pm.
