![]() No. 3 Tech Baseball Blanks Kennesaw State, 7-0

ATLANTA - Lee Hyde and Chris Hicks combined on a six-hit shutout and Steven Blackwood had four hits as third-ranked Georgia Tech (5-0) blanked visiting Kennesaw State (1-3), 7-0, on Saturday at Russ Chandler Stadium. Hyde (1-0) held the Owls to four hits over seven innings and did not allow a runner to advance past second base. He issued four walks and struck out a season-high nine batters while facing just seven batters over the minimum. Hicks pitched the final two innings and allowed two hits while striking out two. Blackwood went 4-for-4 and scored three runs, and Michael Fisher and Danny Payne added two hits each. Whit Robbins drove in two runs to raise his season total to a team-high 16 RBI in five games. The Yellow Jackets took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Blackwood singled and scored on a two-out hit from Wes Hodges. Tech extended the lead to 4-0 with a three-run third inning, including a two-run single from Robbins and a RBI hit from Blackwood. The Yellow Jackets made the score 5-0 in the fourth inning on Danny Payne's RBI single. Tech extended the lead to 6-0 on a two-out RBI single from Matt Wieters in the seventh inning. Blackwood's fourth hit of the game, a RBI single in the eighth inning, made the score 7-0.
Kennesaw State starter Michael Bohanna (0-1) was charged with the loss, allowing five runs on eight hits in 3.2 innings. Georgia Tech and Kennesaw State will conclude the three game series on Sunday at 1 p.m. |
