CORAL GABLES, Fla. (www.hurricanesports.com) - Four Hurricanes knocked in a combined 11 runs to lead Miami in a 13-4 win against Louisville at Mark Light Field Wednesday afternoon. The No. 16 Hurricanes improved to 6-3 overall, while the Cardinals dropped to 0-1 after losing their season opener.

Junior Jon Jay reached base all in all four plate appearances on a hit-by-pitch, home run, double and a walk, and tied a career high with four runs scored to go along with two RBI. Sophomore Walter Diaz drove in a career-high four runs, freshman Yonder Alonso added three more on a sixth-inning home run and Tommy Giles batted in two runs in the first inning.

UM starter Ricky Orta threw five solid innings and gave up two hits and two earned runs with five strikeouts and a walk to earn his first win of the season. Louisville starter B.J. Rosenberg was charged with six runs on six hits with a walk in a strikeout in 2.1 innings in the loss.

Rosenberg loaded the bases by hitting Jemile Weeks, Jay and Alonso with pitches in the first inning. That set the table for Giles' two-run single to left to give Miami an early 2-0 lead.

Miami increased its lead to 7-0 in the third inning on Jay's two-run home run to right field and RBIs from Diaz (single), Dennis Raben (double) and Richard O'Brien Jr. (single). The Cardinals kept pace in the top of the fourth with a two-run homer from Logan Johnson to bring Louisville within 7-2.

Diaz answered Johnson's shot with a three-run double down the left field line in the fourth to build a 10-2 Miami lead. Louisville scored a run in the top of the sixth and eighth innings. Alonso ended Miami's scoring for the day in the sixth with a three-run shot to left field to give the Hurricanes a 13-3 lead and bring his team-leading RBI total to 15 in nine games.

The Hurricanes return to action Friday afternoon against intra-state rival, second-ranked Florida. First pitch is set for 2 p.m. at Mark Light Field.
