![]() Diaz Delivers as FSU Baseball Blasts Troy State, 21-1
February 13, 1999 TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Sophomore Matt Diaz went 3-for-3 with a homerun and five RBI to lead the Seminole's hit parade in a 21-1 win over Troy State in Dick Howser Stadium Saturday. The visiting Trojans took a brief lead in the game with a 1-0 margin halfway through the first inning, but FSU scored three runs on two hits in its half of the first and never trailed again. FSU scored in all but the sixth inning and put the game out of reach with a six run fifth inning that included a three-run homer by leftfielder Chris Smith. Jon McDonald went five innings to get his second win of the season for the Seminoles. He struck out five and scattered four hits, and a total of five Seminoles pitched in the game. Five Seminoles had multi-hit games with Smith finishing 2 for 3 with four RBI and catcher Jeremiah Klosterman also going 2 for 3. The win kept FSU undefeated at 8-0, while the loss dropped Troy
State to 1-2. The final game of the three game series will be played at
2:00 p.m. on Sunday at Dick Howser.
