NC State Men Third, UNC Women Sixth at NCAA Cross Country Championships
Nov. 22, 1999 BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - NC State's men finished third while UNC's women placed sixth at the 1999 NCAA Cross Country Championships, held at Indiana University. Meanwhile, NC State finished 19th and Duke 25th in the women's competition. The Wolfpack men placed five runners among the top 50 individuals, with ACC Champion Chan Pons leading the way in 18th place. Twin brother Corby Pons, who was second at the ACC meet, placed 29th. He was closely followed by teammates Abdul Alzindani (30th) and Chris Dugan (44th). Virginia's Bob Thiele, who qualified as an individual, placed 26th. On the women's side, ACC Champion Christy Nichols of NC State was the conference's top finisher at the NCAA meet, placing 13th. UNC's Trish Nervo, who finished second at the ACC Championships, finished 15th. Wake Forest's Janelle Kraus, who competed individually, was 19th.
