![]() Ogilvie And Geiger Garner ACC Coaches Of The Year Honors
Nov. 2, 2000 Greensboro, N.C. - Duke men's cross country coach Norm Ogilvie and NC State's women's cross country coach Rollie Geiger were named the Atlantic Coast Conference Cross Country Coaches of the Year, after leading their respective teams to an ACC Title at the league's cross country championships held in Raleigh, N.C. on Saturday, October 26.
Ogilvie led the Blue Devils to their first ACC Cross Country Title since 1977 recording a low score of 39 points. The title is Duke's seventh in the 47 year history of the men's championship. The Blue Devils placed three student-athletes on the ACC All-Conference team including individual champion Sean Kelly who finished with a championship time of 25:00.4. The last time the Blue Devils recorded an individual champion was in 1975. This is the first ACC Cross Country Coach of the Year Title for Norm Ogilvie.
Geiger led the Wolfpack to their 18th title in the 23 year history of
the conference championship. The Pack registered the low team total of
43 points to secure the title. Four NC State runners were named All-ACC
by finishing in the top ten including Christy Nichols, Katie Sabino,
Beth Fonner and Beth Kraft. Rollie Geiger has been named ACC Women's
Cross Country Coach of the Year twelve times in the past 17 seasons.
