WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The North Carolina women's cross country team won the 25th annual Atlantic Coast Conference cross country crown today at Wake Forest University. It is the Tar Heels third women's cross country title and first since 1999.

North Carolina tallied 40 points, narrowly edging out NC State (44 points) for first place honors. Wake Forest finished third with 62 points and was followed by Duke (4th - 120), Florida State (5th - 135), Virginia (6th - 142), Maryland (7th - 209), Georgia Tech (8th - 229) and Clemson (9th - 282).

Three of the top ten finishers were Tar Heel runners, including the 2003 ACC Individual Champion, Shalane Flanagan, who covered the 6K course in 19:22.8. Flanagan became the league's first women's cross country performer to win the event four years in a row. A complete listing of the top ten finishers is listed below.
