RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - NC State senior Chan Pons and Wolfpack sophomore Katie Sabino were named Atlantic Coast Conference Cross Country Performers of the Week for October 11, 1999 after turning in strong performances in races this past weekend to lead their respective teams to victories this past weekend.

Pons, a two-time All-American from Franklin, N.C. blitzed the 8K course at the Nittany Lion Invitational in a time of 25:17.56 which according to records is among the top 10 times at the event. His victory was his second in as many races, and led an NC State contingent which finished the event with a perfect score as Wolfpack runners swept the top seven positions en route to the team title. It marked the first time in the history of the Nittany Lion Invitational that a team had turned in a perfect score.

Sabino, a native of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, was the top finisher for the Wolfpack women¢s team at the Nittany Lion Invitational as she finished fourth with a time of 17:40.42 over the 5K circuit. Sabino led three NC State runners in the top 10 as the Wolfpack captured the team title in the event with 44 points.
