Tar Heel's Shalane Flanagan, Virginia's Bobby Thiele Receive ACC Accolades

North Carolina freshman Shalane Flanagan and Virginia senior Bobby Thiele have earned the ACC Cross Country Performer of the Week honors after posting wins in the UNC Challenge and the George Washington University Invitational over the weekend.
Flanagan, a native of Marblehead, Mass., ran the 5K course at Finley Field in a time of 17:41 to lead the field. Finishing 26 seconds ahead of the next runner, Flanagan posted her third first-place finish of the season as she led the North Carolina women's team to a first-place finish out of three competing teams. This is Flanagan's second Performer of the Week honor.
Thiele won the individual championship of the George Washington University Invitational, running the 8K course in a time of 24:44.4. He led the Virginia men's team to a second-place finish out of 19 competing teams.
