WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Wake Forest women's cross country team is back in action this Friday at the Boston College Invitational. The meet kicks off at 4 p.m. on Friday with a 5k race for the women.

The BC Invitational will be Wake Forest's third event of the season. The Deacs competed at the Lou Onesty Invitational hosted by the University of Virginia last weekend.

Wake finished sixth of eight teams but held out most of its top runners. A host of underclassmen took the opportunity to gain experience at the meet.

Freshman Anne-Marie Duncan led the Deacons, placing 44th. Fellow freshman Cristina Richards also finished in the top 50, placing 50th. Redshirt freshman Kelly Laffey was right behind in 53rd.

The Deacs opened the season with a win at the Wake Forest Relays on Aug. 31. Wake had five of the top 10 finishers in the race to claim the team title. Junior Nicole Schappert finished second overall to lead the Deacons.

The Wake Forest women are currently ranked fifth in the Southeast Region by the USTFCCCA.

Wake Forest will take next weekend off before returning to action Sept. 29 at the Bill Dellinger Invitational in Eugene, Ore.
