University of Virginia head cross country coach Randy Bungard has announced the appointment of Jason Dunn as an assistant coach for the cross country and track and field teams, effective immediately.

Dunn comes from Arizona State University where he served as the assistant men's and comen's cross country coach and track and field coach for the past three years. While with the Sun Devils, Dunn assisted with the distance and middle-distance runners. Last year Arizona State's cross country teams finished the season ranked 12th (women) and 14th (men) nationally.

"I am pleased that [Dunn] has come to Charlottesville," said Bungard. "He will have an immediate impact on our team."

Prior to going to Arizona State, Dunn was an assistant at the College of William and Mary, his alma mater, for the 1996 season. He shared duties in an interim postion for a team ranked in the top 20 nationally. That season, the Tribe won a Colonial Athletic Conference Championship in cross country. Dunn also contributed to the coordination and management of one of the largest high school cross country meets in the country.

Dunn's experience in running is not restricted to coaching. In 1999, he was asked to be the guest speaker at the Runner's Workshop Distance Camp. Two years prior, Dunn was a participant at the USATF/USOC-sponsored elite athlete high altitude training camp as well as a guest counselor at the Todd Williams and Bob Kennedy "A Step Ahead" distance camp. In 1996, Dunn's contributions to the sport of cross country were recognized as he was named the Colonial Athletic Association Co-Coach of the Year.

During his collegiate years at William and Mary, Dunn was selected as cross country captain for the 1995-96 season. He was a scoring member of two NCAA Championship-qualifying cross country teams. In track and field, Dunn was All-IC4A in the steeplechase in 1996 as well as a Colonial Athletic Conference champion in the same event.

"I am very pleased to be here," said Dunn. "I look forward to working with the squads and am excited about the youth of the team and being a part of its development."

Dunn received his B.A. from the College of William and Mary in 1996 with a major in government and a minor in history. He then went on to get his M.Ed. from Arizona State University in curriculum and Instruction with a physical education emphasis.
