DURHAM, N.C. - Kevin Jermyn, who enters his fifth season as a member of the Duke Track & Field coaching staff, has been elevated to Head Women's Cross Country Coach. Earlier this month, Director of Track & Field Programs Norm Ogilvie announced that Jermyn, his current Associate Head Coach, is now responsible for coaching the women's middle and long distance runners, in addition to his other duties.

In just four years at Duke, Jermyn has developed the Blue Devil women's middle and long distance program into national prominence. The women's cross country team ran to two consecutive top-20 team finishes at the 2002 and 2003 NCAA Cross Country Championships while the middle and long distance runners have experienced tremendous success at the prestigious Penn Relays and the NCAA Championships.

Individually, Jermyn has coached nine NCAA track and field individual qualifiers and four NCAA All-America performers in just four years. Additionally, Jermyn has guided 17 All-East, nine All-Region and six All-ACC performers as well as two ECAC champions, one USATF Junior Champion and one ECAC relay championship team. During the 2004 outdoor track season, a record-number seven of his runners qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Championships.

A USATF Level II certified coach in endurance, sprints, relays and hurdles, Jermyn is currently in the process of earning his Level III certification in endurance. Jermyn manages an online coaching web site, TrackCoach.com, where he offers advice and tips to athletes of all types, ages and abilities. During the summer, Jermyn directs the Nike Running Camp at Duke University.

Jermyn's experience as a national class runner is a valuable asset to his coaching. Jermyn was a member of the victorious Reebok Enclave team at the 1998 USATF Cross Country Championship and raced to a personal best of 3:43.56 for 1,500-meters on the track. As an undergraduate at Georgetown University, Jermyn led the Hoyas as a team captain to numerous Big East and IC4A team championships and NCAA Championship appearances. Individually, Jermyn was an All-America, All-East and All-Big East conference selection in track and field. As a prep at Tottenville High School in Staten Island, N.Y., Jermyn was a three-time National High School Champion, two-time New York State Champion and a winner of the prestigious Millrose Games high school mile.

Jermyn graduated from Georgetown University cum laude in 1998 with a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting and finance and a minor in psychology. Jermyn is currently taking classes part-time at Duke University in the Masters of Arts in Liberal Studies program.
