Philip Wiles, a senior distance on the Wake Forest men's cross country and track & field teams was selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) to the 2002 Verizon Academic All-District III University Division Men's Track & Field/Cross Country First Team on Friday. The Huntsville, AL native graduated on Monday with a degree in Biology. As one of the 10 first-team selections, Wiles is now automatically nominated for Academic All-America honors.

Wiles, a Dean's List student at Wake Forest and a member of the ACC Honor Roll, finished 14th in the 10,000m at the 2002 ACC Outdoor Track & Field Championships with a time of 32:28.17. This past fall in cross country, Wiles was the eighth place finisher at Appalachian State's Mountaineer Open. He finished in the top 25 at the 2001 ACC Cross Country Championships to help the Demon Deacons place second. Wiles posted a 46th place finish at the NCAA Regionals to help Wake Forest finish third and qualify for the NCAA Championships. At the NCAA Championships, he came ran a time of 31:20 on the 10k course, helping Wake Forest place 19th.
