Head cross country coach Trent Sanderson has announced the Terps will add Matt Sanders to the 2003 roster, alongside other new signees Pete Hess and Pat Bailey.
Sanders, the cross country team captain at Mt. Hebron High School, was named the All-Howard County Runner of the Year in 2002. He was also selected to the first team All-Metro boys cross country team in 2001 and 2002. At the Class 3A state championships, he ran to a third place finish for the second consecutive season. He won four major races in 2002, including the Howard County championships, the Class 3A East Regional championships, the Howard County Striders Invitational and the Doc Jones Anne Arundel County Invitational (small schools division). Described by his high school coach as a competitive athlete and strong leader, Sanders will be a welcome addition to the Maryland squad.
