Three Women's Cross Country Athletes Named to All-ACC Academic Team
March 29, 2007 ATLANTA - Senior Mary Chind and junior Nisha Kurian and Elena Linn of the Georgia Tech women's cross country team was named to the 2006 All-Atlantic Coast Conference Academic team, announced Wednesday by ACC Commissioner John Swofford. To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during her academic career. Chind, a senior Science, Technology and Culture major from Cartersville, Ga., finished in the top three among Tech runners in five of the six races she entered. She had a 13th-place finish with a time of 18:56 in the 5K course at the Tennessee Invitational. Chind was the first Tech competitor and seventh runner overall to finish at the Greater Louisville Classic with a time of 18:01 in the 5K race. She placed 29th overall at the ACC Championships with a time of 22:27.3. Chind completed the 6K course at the NCAA South Region Championships in 22:14.3 for a 28th-place finish. Kurian, a junior chemical engineering major from Canton, Ohio, was Named to All-South Region Team after finishing 25th overall at the NCAA South Region Championship with a time of 22:08.8 on the 6K course. She crossed the line first in four of Tech's six races during the season. Kurian Had six top-25 finishes, including four top-10 results. She placed third at the Belmont Opener 4K race with a time of 14:03.84. She was also the Jackets top finisher with a second-overall finish at the Front Runner Invitational (11:03) to lead Tech to a first-place finish in the two mile race. Linn, a junior international affairs major from Marietta, Ga., finished in the top two among Tech runners in four races and in the top-three in all six races she competed in. She finished 10th with a time of 13:27.70 in the 4K race at the Belmont Opener. Linn crossed the line eighth overall (18:48) and was the first to finish for Tech at the Tennessee Invitational. She finished 27th (22:21.4) at the ACC Championships and in 29th place at the NCAA South Region Championship in a time of 22:14.3. The three athletes led the women's team to the top GPA in the ACC during the fall. Linn finished the fall with a perfect 4.0 GPA, while Chind and Kurian each earned a spot on the school's dean's list after maintaining a GPA over 3.0.
